Wedding Underwear

Choosing wedding underwear can present some unique problems that you might not have considered. To make the process easier we’ve decided to face the problem head on. Below are some of the main dilemmas faced by brides when choosing undergarments for their big day, and the night that follows it.

The Dress

The choice of underwear for the wedding day itself can be affected by the style of dress. A corseted dress might need nothing underneath it, a strapless or off the shoulder design might require a supportive strapless bra and a backless design presents problems all of its own! You might be able to get some advice while shopping for the dress, but it would be useful to have your wedding dress underwear ready before shopping, so that the dress can be tried on with it. Whatever style the dress well fitted bra is a must, so consider being measured for a new one.

The Wedding Day

Perhaps the most important thing to consider during the day is comfort. A wedding gown and all that goes with it could be worn for eight hours during which time there is likely to be more than one long walk, with all eyes upon you, some dancing, a sit-down meal and many, many photographs. The last thing any bride needs is scratchy or uncomfortable underwear which needs to be adjusted during the day – something to consider if choosing lacy or heavily embroidered items, or stockings. Of course, if nothing special is required to fit under the dress then a bride might consider making her most comfortable undies her ‘something old’ for the day!

The Garter

Based on a very old tradition of removing the bride’s stockings, the wearing and removal of a garter (often blue, to fulfil the ‘something blue’ requirement of the old rhyme) is an important part of the day for many traditional brides. While a garter is no longer required to hold up the brides stockings, it is still worn by many brides. It is seen today as more of an optional extra and a fun part of the day by those who choose to wear one.

Wedding Night Underwear

Naturally, a bride who has worn giant supportive, hold-it-all-in underwear might want a back-up plan for her evening plans. Luckily, there is a great deal more choice available in practical and attractive underwear than there used to be so it doesn’t necessarily have to be one or the other. A little shopping around may solve the problem nicely. Alternatively, there is the option of choosing a second set of lingerie for the evening, in which case anything goes!

Choosing Wedding Underwear

Bridal underwear is often white but a variety of colors are worth considering, especially if the dress is to be colored. And, of course, there is always the tradition of ‘something new’ and ‘something blue’ to follow. The good news for all brides is that shopping for wedding underwear needn’t be a chore. Beautiful, supportive, sexy, plus-size, colored and patterned, lacy or silk – there is a vast amount of variety to choose from.
