Why Wear a Black Wedding Dress?

When a bride to be suggests wearing a black dress on her big day there are often two reactions. There are those who encourage her to make her day her own and tell her that she will look beautiful in black, and there are those who have a more ‘traditional’ view and suggest several superstitious reasons for choosing white for a wedding dress. These reactions might come from someone close to the bride, a parent or grandparent perhaps, and could be off-putting, even upsetting, for a bride who cares what others think.

However, if you want to be one of the growing number of brides who are choosing to avoid the ‘traditional’ white or ivory and step out for your wedding in beautiful black then we think you should and, to prove it, we have listed several good reasons to do just that.

As for your loved ones, take them with you when you shop and try some gentle persuasion, or simply let them see how amazing you look on your big day, happy and confident in the dress of your choice. After all, your happiness is what they want.

Three good reasons to choose a black wedding dress:

1 – More choice
When selecting a traditional white wedding dress a bride has a limited range to choose from, most of these from bridal collection or specialist shops. There will be wider range of shopping options when looking for black dresses for sale – from high street shops to online stores. There will even be black wedding dresses available from some bridal collections and designers.

2 – Cheaper black wedding dresses
Due to the increased shopping choices a black wedding dress may be selected to fit any budget. Looking further then the tradional bridal suppliers can ensure that the price tag is considerably lowered and black evening or formal dresses may do just as well. Feeling confident and beautiful in a style of dress that suits you will go a lot further towards making the perfect day than choosing a dress witha ‘wedding’ label attached.

3 – A black wedding dress can be for ever
A black wedding dress needn’t be just a wedding dress. A gorgeous black dress can be worn again and again, perhaps to celebrates wedding anniversaries or other special occasions. This way you have a dress you have one that marks many wonderful times that you want to remember, rather than a dress that hold memories of only one special day before being shut away in a box or wardrobe for ever.

For the bride who like the idea of being different but is still not completely convinced to go with a black wedding dress there are still some beautiful compromises to be found. Black and ivory or white wedding dresses with black details such as embroidery can be found in many traditional styles. Failing this wedding dresses are often able to be customised to suit the bride’s preferences. There really are enough ways to wear black at your wedding to please anyone so if you’re tempted, then go for it!
